Livestock

Water quality is the most important part of all livestock production. Therefore, being able to provide livestock with clean, palatable and biosecure water is vital for productive, efficient and profitable farming.

Every aspect of an animal’s metabolism is intrinsically linked and clean, bacteria free water is the core foundation for a happy and healthy animal. Access to a good quality water supply enhances various bodily functions such as assimilating feed, regulating temperatures and eliminating waste.

Several factors influence water quality including the mineral levels, geographical factors and the presence of bacteria and other microorganisms. If not addressed, these issues can directly impact the colour, taste and odour of your livestock drinking water.

Our range of products are actively being used within the livestock sector for continual water treatment of drinking water, the washing and disinfection of agricultural buildings, fogging and spray disinfection, terminal disinfection, biofilm removal and surface disinfection.

Poultry

A farm’s water quality & biosecurity measures directly correlate with performance and overall production. Poor water quality strongly impacts overall growth and production, making birds drink less, eat less and grow less. This ultimately leads to a significant reduction in profits and the long-term viability of a poultry operation. It is therefore imperative to ensure measures are taken to provide your birds with bacteria free water in order to sustain and develop profitable farming.

Oxiflo has been improving the water quality and biosecurity on poultry farms for many years. We are highly experienced and successful at identifying potential weaknesses in farm practices and cleaning programmes, allowing us to present cost-effective solutions aimed at enhancing performance and production.

We recommend continually treating your water supply with a sophisticated Oxidising Biocide such as Silvenox (Dual Active Silver Hydrogen Peroxide) or Oxiflo 1 & 2 (Chlorine Dioxide) as this will provide countless benefits:

Improved Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR)

Increased European Poultry Efficacy Factor (EPEF)

Reduced mortality

Reduction in rejects at processors

Improved Daily Live Weight Gains (DLWG)

Drier more friable litter

Biofilm free pipe work

Reduced risk of cross-contamination

Increased production cycles in layers

Superior quality eggshells

Improved Hatchability in breeders

Reduced reliance on antibiotics

Pigs

A good quality, clean and bacteria free water supply has an enormous impact on a pig’s health and wellbeing and therefore growth rate and production. Access to good quality water will assist with digestion, regulating body temperature, removing toxins, assimilation of feed, improving FCRs, reduced risk of disease and many more.

A piglet’s body is made up of 80% water and a finisher pig is made up of 50% water, these water levels must be maintained which is why over 50% of a pig’s diet consists of water.  As 85% of growing pigs will be drinking water within 10 minutes of eating, it is imperative to prioritise the input which contributes to over half their total consumption.

DEFRA state in their code of practice for the welfare of pigs: “All pigs over two weeks of age must have continuous access to a sufficient quantity of fresh drinking water”.

Farms using Oxiflo products for their continual water treatment and terminal disinfection have benefitted from:

Improved Daily Live Weight Gain (DLWG)

Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR)

Reduced Mortality

Reduction in health problems

Reduction in the use of antibiotics and medication

Reduction in days to slaughter

Improved Metabolic functions

Improved ability to regulate body temperature

Ensures clean pipe work and stops the build-up of biofilm ensuring drinkers remain free flowing and clear of obstructions

Extra layer of biosecurity reducing the risk of disease and cross-contamination

Dairy

Water is one of the most fundamental nutrients for improving lactation, growth, digestion and reproduction. Water content makes up more than ¾ of fully grown dairy cattle and approximately 87% of milk is water, highlighting the importance of ensuring the herd remains hydrated from a clean and biosecure water source.

Water quality alone is often the difference between struggling and high performing farms with strong production levels. Our water treatment chemicals are designed to remove bacteria, disinfecting the water and pipework in tandem, all whilst maintaining superior water quality and palatability.

Much like the unpleasant taste that bacteria can create in water, basic commodity chemicals like chlorine and chlorinated compounds can provide unpleasant tastes and odours in the water as well, not to mention the creation of disinfection by-products (DBPs). These factors contribute to reduced water consumption which has drastic effects on production, performance and ultimately profitability.

The use of Oxiflo products on your site will assist with:

Reduced Somatic Cell Count (SCC)

Improved Bactoscan results

Increased milk yields per cow

Reduced risk of cross-contamination when milking

Reduction in the use of medication

Reduction in mortality

Improved Milk / Feed ratio

Biofilm free pipework
